How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Portrait Session

We’re only finishing up the first month of a new year and everyone is counting down to Spring, warmer weather, sunshine and family vacations. If you are a planner, like me, or even if you’re not chances are you have spent some time dreaming up your family’s portrait session.

That is why I always recommend planning at least 2 months in advance if not more. You should start looking at your calendar soon to see when you want to schedule your photography session with your photographer; scheduling early means:

  • You get the date/time you really want.
  • You beat the holiday deadlines of getting your prints back in time before delays start setting in (if you’ve booked during the months of November and early December).
  • If you are ordering/sending photos as holiday cards, then those are received by family before the actual holiday and most importantly….
  • You are the first to take advantage of any sales/promotions/discounts your photographer is offering.

There is nothing more heartbreaking to me when a client is hoping for a date/time and I can’t accommodate them because I am booked! As a portrait photographer I only book a certain amount of appointments each month to ensure that I can provide the experience and photographs they hope for. So, when will you schedule your appointment for?

Happy booking!
