Portrait Photography Frequently Asked Questions-FAQs

I am interested in booking a portrait session, how far in advance do I have to book my desired date?

The sooner you book the better. There is no rush on when you book but a lot of weekends are booked months in advance in order to hold desired dates. However, the best time to book is at least 2 months in advance from the date you want, every so often a few days following will become available, but booking and reserving the date is ideal for both the photographer and client.

What do I wear?

Casual dressy is a good way to go. It is your session and you may dress the way you like, but coordinating as well is key to a flowing session. I’ve pinned some ideas on Pinterest https://pin.it/ecmxakr57fambt to assist you when planning your outfits!

Is There A Perfect Time Of Day For My Photos?

Yes! The golden hour (1-2 hours before sunset or immediately after sunrise), is my favorite time to shoot.

How long will our session last?

I don’t put a time limit on sessions, because working against the clock in a session is stressful. We’ll take as long as we need to. But a good rule of thumb is about 1 hour for portrait sessions and 2 hours for engagements and anniversary sessions.

Where will we hold our session?

Is there a special place that is meaningful to you or helps tell your story? Let’s shoot there. Need ideas? I’m happy to help. I love outdoor locations, and will choose them as often as possible (outdoor portraits are way awesome.) I do have some studio equipment however, I do not maintain a full indoor studio. In the event of bad weather (raining, blizzard, etc.) we can definitely reschedule!

Am I allowed to bring props to a session?

Yes, you may bring whatever props you like or feel are meaningful to the session. I myself have a handful of props that can be used for any session type that fit for families or single portrait sessions as well that I can bring upon request. Bring the props you need in the event we can use them all, it is not guaranteed that all props will be used.

If I have to cancel my session, how late do I have to cancel?

I typically ask that as soon as you have to cancel, you should cancel. But at the same time your deposit is non-refundable. Based on your balance, if you cancel before any final payment is made, you may owe half of the session value or may get a credit towards another session. At any time you cancel and you have booked an online or monthly special, your sale price will be void. If you reschedule you will have be quoted the current rates for the year and have a difference between session prices.
